FAREWELL MASSIMO

I am very sad and sorry to report that Massimo Vignelli, one of our most influential and respected designers of our time, passed away this morning in his New York City home.

Massimo Vignelli was widely known for designing the New York City subway signage and map system as well as the American Airlines logo, which was one of the longest standing logos of all time, just to mention a few. His work was so well know that his death was reported on the National News this evening at the same time I write this post! I hope Massimo was showered with letters from designers per his son’s request. His son stated on Design Observer about two weeks ago that Massimo would really like to attend his own funeral so he could hear what people had to say about his life and career.

I was fortunate to meet Massimo through AIGA so I sent my letter over a week ago telling Massimo what a great inspiration he was to me and my career among other things. I really hope he got my letter and many more.

Peace be with you Massimo, YOU will be dearly missed!
