AIGA Las Vegas Work Show 2017

It is with great pride I can report the AIGA Las Vegas Work Show 2017 was a success! The evening kicked off with a reception, allowing people to mingle with drinks and small bites while viewing all the winning entries presented in the center of the room. The excitement in the air was contagious as the night went on. Angela Johnson, the chapter’s president, and Victor Rodriguez former president and Work Show director welcomed everyone to the event. The show continued with a moving performance from vocalist Rishi Shukla honoring the victims of the October 1 tragedy with his rendition of “You Raise Me Up”.

After the moving tribute performance, MC’s Nicci Imbert and Patrick Peel started the awards ceremony with high-energy and cheeky banter. 24 agencies and designers in town entered the show and we awarded 16 Merit awards, 20 Bronze, 15 Silver, 6 Gold and 5 special awards ranging from Best of Show to Technical Excellence. Big congratulations to all of the winners. The judges were tough and the bar was high. Everyone from Merit to Best of Show should be proud of the accomplishment.

Before the Judge’s Choice and Best of Show awards were given out we had another performance by Richard Hodges, he performed an American medley in honor of all the first responders, medical professionals, volunteers, blood banks, hospitals, and many others, especially friends and families of the victims. In addition to the performance, AIGA Las Vegas in collaboration with local artists brought posters, t-shirts, and stickers to help raise money for the cause. Thank you to Ian Racoma, Davidgonzalo Resto and Mshl Neveskem for their art and swag contributions. With a generous match from Vapetasia and then again from Zappos, we managed to raise $3,541.36 for the Las Vegas Victims Fund. #VEGASSTRONG! See an article Angela Johnson wrote about how designers contributed to the healing process after October 1.

It is exciting for the chapter to be able to shed light on the hard work and great design that Las Vegas design community produces. The Work Show has not happened the past 5 years and we are thrilled we were able to bring it back to the community and spotlight the best design in the valley.

I would like to Thank Victor Rodriguez and the entire advisory committee. We could not have done it without you and we appreciate you taking time out of your busy schedules to give back to the chapter. I would also like to thank our judge’s John Ball, Karl Herbert, and Matt Porter. They were great and allowed us to maintain the highest of standards for the competition. Another group that was pivotal in making this event a success was our generous sponsors. Thank you Color Reflections, eurie creative, The Las Vegas Natural History Museum, Neenah Paper, Quantum Color Graphics, Royal Printing, Spicers Paper and The Space.

Thank you to everyone who was involved! Together we will help further elevate design in Las Vegas! Oh and look out for the call for entries for the Work Show 2018 show early next year.
